About Me
General Info: Who am I?
My name is Aimee Watts, and I'm a 9th grader living in Rio de Janeiro. I take full advantage of this beautiful city by staying indoors with the curtains drawn, reading. My other hobbies - blogging, writing, talking – have a tendency to revolve around my passions and obsessions. (Harry Potter, Sherlock, Psych, LBD, Hunger Games, Big
Bang Theory, Friends, Doctor Who.) I was formerly educated at the Western
Academy of Beijing and at a local school in Tokyo.
Books: What am I into?
I love reading, in general, but I stick to certain genres - historical fiction, science fiction, crime fiction and fantasy. I love historical fiction due to its relevancy and embellishment of the past, while science fiction is loved because of its relevancy to the future and its inclusion of new events and opportunities. Crime fiction is also a favorite because it’s full of suspense and doubt. Fantasy is brilliant because it really breaks away the restrictions of real life.
I don't have a favorite book - I have multiple, however, that I read religiously. In no particular order:
- The Hunger Games
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
- Graceling
- Delirium
- Murder on the Orient Express
- The Host
- The Martian Chronicles.
Please don’t ask me for my favorite author. That’s the equivalent of asking who your favorite child is.
Writing: What's my style?
I have a mix of writers who have influenced me – Agatha Christie, Sophie Kinsella, J.K. Rowling and Jane Green. My writing style, as a result, has a tendency to weave details into writing, a tendency to have a tone of sarcasm and appreciation as well as a tendency to be more empathetic towards the topic. All of these aspects, based on the mentioned authors, are things I consider my strengths. My weakness is grammar - I never rigorously studied “conjunctive statements” or “contractions” which has caused my writing to be less formal.
Grade 9 English: What are my goals?
To be a truly good writer I need to go through the boring, but necessary, lessons of grammar. I’d like to accomplish this by the end of the school year, measuring my success by comparing early graded essays to the ones
written later on. The amount of noted grammar mistakes will hopefully decrease. My plan for making this happen, for improving my grammar, is to:
1. Plague my teachers with questions.
2. Follow online courses on 8th and 9th grade grammar.
